Eucalyptus Tree

Eucalyptus is said to be one of the most useful trees on the planet.

It’s name means “well covered” as it’s cap covers it’s flower before it buds. It is a tall tree that loves water. It’s very fast growing and can grow up to 400 feet tall. It can usually be found in damp areas and moist valleys of rich soil.

For centuries, Eucalyptus has been used as a powerful expectorant and decongestant. For example, Vick’s is made from Eucalyptus oil. It is rubbed on the chest and back to relieve respiratory problems and cold symptoms. It is great for loosening mucus helping it be coughed up and removed from the body.

Besides being a potent decongestant, Eucalyptus also has antibiotic properties. Internally, the leaves can be taken as a hot tea, acting as a diuretic. Eucalyptus oils are only to be used externally, as in the chest and back rub previously mentioned. Eucalyptus oil can also be applied to bruises, muscle aches and sprains to provide quick relief.

There are a few occasions where the oil can be used internally, but only in very small amounts and with the supervision of your doctor. These will be mentioned below.

One benefit of using Eucalyptus oil on the skin, is it’s cooling sensation. It’s effective at receiving pain and muscle stiffness and also reducing inflammation. It is often a component of massage oil.

Externally, it can be used on insect bites and burns as well. It’s also able to repel insects. Just put some Eucalyptus oil and water in a spray bottle and spray the area you want to protect. Bugs hate the smell of Eucalyptus and won’t come anywhere near the treated area. You may also soak a cloth in the oil and put in it your cupboard to keep bugs and roaches away.

Eucalyptus is believed to have some anti-tumor and anti-diabetic properties, though there is yet no scientific studies to support this claim.

This herb has strong antiseptic properties and is often used to treat gum disease, such as pyorrhea.

In the past, people found that one drop of Eucalyptus mixed with cinnamon on the tongue could help alleviate flu symptoms.

Eucalyptus oil is commonly used in aromatherapy. It is usually mixed with other oils such as Lavender, Juniper or Marjoram. to enhance the scent. The oil has a slightly stimulating effect when inhaled. It improves alertness, refreshes the mind and is also energizing. It can reduce stress and reduce the symptoms of depression while imparting an overall sense of wellbeing.

Eucalyptus has many wonderful healing benefits when used properly. Always play it safe. Talk to your doctor before taking this, or any herbal health supplement.
