Spirulina is considered a blue-green algae. It is a single celled algae and grows in bodies of warm, fresh water. Algae are grouped according to their predominate color. There are green, blue-green, brown and red algaes. Spirulina is classified as blue-green because it contains phycocyanin (blue) and also chlorophyll (green) pigments.

I personally prefer to consume it rather than a regular multi-vitamin supplement found at the drug store. The nutrients are all in balance because it is a natural whole food and the body can easily absorb them.
While you can buy spirula powder, I prefer to take the tablets. I always take six tablets in the morning and sometime more in the afternoon. It’s not that expensive compared to other health supplements and most people will find it easily affordable.
