The pigments that give the blueberry its blue color are called Anthocyanins. These Anthocyanins, as well as flavonoids and tannins are what gives blueberries their powerful healing benefits. The anthocyanosides in blueberries have been proven in clinical studies to slow visual loss. They are helpful preventing problems like macular degeneration and cataracts as well.
